The Car with the Extra Chromosome

The Matador X was Motor Trend's car of the year when it came out. Twenty years later they called it, 'The car with the extra chromosome.'

Pretty sporty looking, oversized head and tail lights is what did it to these beasts. By the 1980's they no longer looked all that great.

Built from 1979 to 1983, what would have been an economy car back then is about as fuel efficient as an SUV today.

The AMC Pacer was integral to the movie, 'Wayne's World.' When many people think of the song, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' they also think about 5 guys driving around lip-syncing it in a Pacer (with one of the almost ready to spew in the backseat).

But if you want to see a movie full of 1970's AMCs check out the James Bond movie, 'The Man with the Golden Gun.' What happened was that AMC, still a viable car company in 1974, paid to have its cars featured in this Bond classic. This is a 1974 AMC Hornet:
